Drought Extent and Severity on Arable Lands in Romania Derived from Normalized Difference Drought Index (2001–2020)

چکیده
The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency and severity drought over arable lands Romania using Normalized Difference Drought Index (NDDI). This index obtained from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-Radiometer (MODIS) sensor Terra satellite. interval between March September investigated occurrence early stage crop growth its harvest time. covered a long period (2001–2020), hence it is able provide sound climatological image vegetation conditions. Corine Land Cover 2018 (CLC) used extract land surfaces. According index, driest year 2003 with 25.6% affected by drought. On contrary, wettest 2016, only 10.8% Regarding multiannual average 2001–2020, can be seen that not phenomenon occurs consistently each year, therefore 11.7% constantly severe extreme correlation NDDI precipitation amount also investigated. Although correlations at weekly or monthly levels are more complicated, annual regional mean overall negatively correlated rainfall. Thus, climatic perspective, we consider reliable valuable tool for assessment droughts in Romania.

A Drought Indicator based on Ecosystem Responses to Water Availability: The Normalized Ecosystem Drought Index
Drought is one of the most destructive natural disasters causing serious damages to human society, and studies have projected more severe and widespread droughts in the coming decades associated with the warming climate. Although several drought indices have been developed for drought monitoring, most of them were based on large scale environmental conditions rather than ecosystem transitional ...
متن کاملA Self-Calibrating Palmer Drought Severity Index
The Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) has been used for more than 30 years to quantify the long-term drought conditions for a given location and time. However, a common critique of the PDSI is that the behavior of the index at various locations is inconsistent, making spatial comparisons of PDSI values difficult, if not meaningless. A self-calibrating Palmer Drought Severity Index (SC-PDSI) ...
متن کاملDrought Determination by Using Land Surface Temperature and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index
Today, many places of different locations on Earth especially semi-arid areas face the risk of desertification due to severe drought. However, the very basic data required for the analysis is unavailable for the regions without a meteorological station. In this case, land surface temperature (LST) is derived from a thermal band as an alternative meteorological station’s data. In this research, ...
متن کاملAssessing Agricultural Drought in the Anthropocene: A Modified Palmer Drought Severity Index
In the current human-influenced era, drought is initiated by natural and human drivers, and human activities are as integral to drought as meteorological factors. In large irrigated agricultural regions with high levels of human intervention, where the natural farmland soil moisture has usually been changed significantly by high-frequency irrigation, the actual severity of agricultural drought ...
